Quirky Food Combinations You Simply Must Try!!

Fruit and cheese, sugar and spice, sweet and savoury—food combinations are an interesting thing. More often than not, we like to stick to our traditional notions, making a classically cooked dish that we’re happy to eat. But every now and then, a burst of flavour can take us by surprise and arrest our taste buds. Today, we’re helping you out with the tasting game (for better or for worse) and giving you five tried, tested and declared delicious quirky food combinations. We hope you’re left smacking your lips as hard as we did after some sampling.

Red Hot Chilli Chocolate
Whether it’s a straight up bark of bitter chocolate paired with red hot chilli, hot truffles or a lip-smacking dish of chilli con carne (beef chilli with chocolate)—when chilli and chocolate are paired together, the flavours released are rich and delicious. Any seasoned cook will tell you that the best dishes have a perfect balance of flavours—whether it’s sweet and sour or in this case sweet, bitter and hot.

Pears and Parmesan
A great dessert dish, ripe pears and parmesan makes for a classic combination. Add in some salad greens and balsamic vinaigrette to make for a spectacular salad. The fresh crisps of pear with the crumbly, texture of the cheese will make for an unexpected but delightful taste.

Fried Chicken and Waffles

Sweet, buttery waffles, saturated in a pool of sticky maple syrup paired with crispy fried chicken. This traditionally American pairing comes from the country’s soul food tradition as a breakfast or brunch meal. The unusual food pairing is a beloved one and one that has influenced generations of families. The crispiness of the chicken and waffles pairs beautifully together as does the sweetness of the soft meat with the butter and maple syrup. Not the best for your cholesterol, but our mouth is already watering at just the thought of this delicious combination, which sounds pretty simple to whip up too!

5 Makeup Essentials for the Working Girl

To start off, you want a product that gives you everyday coverage—this means you need something that is light and malleable, so you don’t feel like you’ve got a heavy, cakey layer of product slapped on to your face as you juggle meetings in the conference room.
Recommeds: Lakmé Face Magic – Skin Tints Soufflé

If you have slightly more problematic skin, which is in need of something stronger than a skin-soufflé, we recommend you opt for something that will deliver medium to high coverage, but yet remains a product that has a silky and delicate texture and superior blending qualities.
Recommeds: Lakmé Face Magic – Skin Tints Crème

Makeup certainly can be a powerful thing and when you find the ultimate product for your peepers, complete with a fairy-wand, you know that there’s no turning back.
Recommeds: Lakmé Eyeconic Curling Mascara

When you’re at the office, you want to have on a face that looks effortless, chic and uncomplicated. There is nothing to be gained by having your peers feel like you spent the better half of your morning on sculpting your game face

Recommeds: Lakmé 9to5 Matte Lip Colour (Beige Post)

It’s all about choosing the right cut and colour when it comes to formal wear and we promise it wouldn’t look boring and yet sync in with the working culture. Here are 5 pieces every modern working woman should own.

Premature Greying

Thyroid Disease: An underactive or overactive thyroid can disturb the melanin production in the hair which can cause early age greying.
B12 Deficiency: Lack of B12 has also been linked to premature greying of hair.
It is advisable to see a doctor if you experience premature greying of hair and have a reason to believe that it is not inherited. This is crucial so that you can rule out these serious disorders that have caused early hair greying.

While some medical conditions are the cause for premature greying of hair, it is not always the case. There are a number of lifestyle choices too that have been related to it.

How to reduce face fat?

  • Do cheeks puff exercise. Take a deep breath, puff of air into your cheeks.
  • Get enough sleep. You should get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Too little can make your face become too large and fatigue. Sagging muscles can cause rounder facial looks than normal.
  • Apply makeup. Use a slightly darker powder under your chin and cheeks. This will help make your face look slimmer. Make subtle changes, too much makeup can make your face look fake.
  •  Change your hairstyle. Wrong hairstyle can make a round face look more round. Tell your hair stylist to slim your face and draw attention away from your cheeks and chin.

Rough Blow Dry

What is it: A Rough Blow Dry is just to remove the moisture from wet hair - just to dry the hair without styling. Make it a practice to rough blow dry your hair first, and then style it

Style tip: Holding your hair dryer too close to your hair can be very damaging. Keep a distance of about seven inches in order to protect your hair from over-heating or drying.

Makeup Tips for Monsoon!

Use of waterproof makeup for eyes is essential. Choose the eyeliner, eye kohl and mascara carefully, as they are the products which you would want to prevent from drenched and smudging. One aspect that we often tend to ignore is makeup removal part. Always use a makeup remover, especially for waterproof makeup to remove these products.

Foundation:  Pick a long-staying and long-wear foundation that would give you an even tone finish.  Also ensure that your foundation is water proof.
Waterproof Concealer:  Look for a full coverage and waterproof concealer to hide all your skin issues.

The following should be avoided:
- Cream based makeup products, whether it is foundation, blush or eye shadow as they are likely to make you sweat more
- Too much shimmer and glitter as this will overdo overall makeup
- lip-gloss on lipstick as it doesn’t look good

What Do Facials Really Do?

Let us understand some more about facials.

What Do Facials Really Do?
Simply put, facials make you feel good about yourself. They claim to rejuvenate your skin by getting rid of dead skin cells and deep clean pores, improve the texture and appearance of your skin, moisturise your complexion, and tighten your pores thus making skin appear firm, bright and young. Facials can be of many types; those that use natural products, creams made of natural products or chemical ones like microdermabrasion and glycolic peels.

Some Precautions You Must Take When it comes to Facials

  • Always ask for a test patch before you go in for any treatment. This way, the treatment is tested on your hand or the side of your face and you can tell at once whether it will suit your face or not. This is particularly important for those who have sensitive skin as otherwise it can cause the skin to flare up instantly.
  • If you’re looking for some pampering, go in for a simple facial where they will clean, steam and massage your skin. This might be refreshing but make sure you get it done at a trusted salon or spa.
  • Let your therapist know if you suffer from any allergies or are taking a specific kind of medication. You may think nothing of it, but the products used in the facial may cause adverse reactions on your skin.
  • Pregnant women should inform the therapist immediately as certain products used in facials are not suitable for them.

Dos and don'ts of an updo

Updos are the best way to not only hide a bad hair day, but also glam up a dress, especially if it’s a wedding you're attending. Here are some tips and tricks to getting your bun, bouffant or French knot just right.

1. Don't shy away from volume in the front; it will help balance out the bun in the back. Add drama with hair accessories.

2. Use a texturizer like Toni & Guy Sea Salt Texturizing Spray at the roots to add bounce and softness to your locks and makes sure they don't look flat, limp and oily.

3. Use hot rollers to give your hair volume, but don't forget to coat your locks with Toni & Guy Heat Protection Mist first.

4. Plaits, knots and curls add texture to buns and make them interesting, so don't be afraid to add your own twists to a simple updo.

5. If you must use extensions, don't go too long, or choose a colour that will stand out against the rest of your hair.

6. Choose an updo style that flatters your face (for example, volume at the crown offsets a round face), not just something that's on trend.

7. Don't use too much hairspray, because it will make your hair hard.

8. Do remember to set the style with finishing spray, like Toni &Guy Moisturising Shine Spray.

9. If you're adding highlights to your hair, make sure they are also applied to the underside of your locks, which will be visible by an updo.
